Bio: Born and lived on French
Street between 9th and 10th NW in D.C. as young child. Moved to Jersey
City, New Jersey as child and raised there. Travelled frequently
to Gettysburg as her mother's family was long of the area, and hence
met her future husband. On marriage she moved into the new home her husband
had built for them, which later became the home of her adult son and his
family. As an adult she was called Billie by her family and close friends,
and her husband was called Dewey, for the Admiral and the further appelation
Bamie was included with the birth of her first grandchild who had trouble
with the name Billie. Ruth lived in Gettysburg the remainder of her life,
minus 1/2 year increments with her child in DC until that child and family
returned to Gettysburg in 1968. Ruth's children needed
to assist her from

the early 60s on secondary
to blindness rom Glaucoma with no other health problems seriously impeding
her until her death. f She was, up until her blindness, an avid golfer,
ardent traveller, skilled bridge player, handiworker, and active civic
member of the Gettysburg, Adams County community. She continued knitting
until her death 25 years after her blindness,and all us have the wonderful
aghans to prove it. In total, she and Dewey had 9 grandchildren, and 12
great grandchildren are members of this family.
