μThe precise ancestry of the HOCK family in Germany is not entirely
known. It is however certain that several related families of that
name were resident in various Villages within the area of Waldmohr, Ottweiler,
Schwartzenbach, Limbach, Worschweiler, Erbach, Einod, Webenheim, Mimbach,
Hornbach, Mittelbach & Zweibrucken, from 1500 onward, and indications
that the main stem originates in the Kaiserlauten area prior to this.
Descendants of the families in this area were active in the protection
of Protestant rights from 1600 to 1700, and appear to have been well educated
- indicating that they were of relatively affluent families.
It would seem reasonable to expect these families to have left the
area in the mass exodus of 1709, but the Hock family name is still well
represented within the above area to this day.ξ1
