Descendancy for Yost Swope as presented by G E Swope 1898 [Son Johannes married twice and had children with both his spouses. He is the only one of five children with known progeny within the source here discussed. Johannes' descendancy utilizing multiple resources is fully available through link where he appears on this page] G E Swope mentioned a family
bible, birth records of five children, and provided
the birthdate of 22 Feb 1678 Sinsheim, Duchy of Baden, Germany. He also
mentioned a death date, and describes the slab found 7 feet below the ground
and above Yost on the event of his reinternment [ along with locks of red
"Female Hair" which he states can be assumed to be Yost's wife's] ; The
slab read Y.S. 1735 . No birthdate was given on that original slab.
The contemporaneous newspaper account
in " The Lancaster New Era" detailing the event of Yost's reinternment,
and the second burial stone both provide birth and death dates consistent
with G E Swope's notations, but can not be considered firm in any way,
being a second burial plot, and being perhaps the source for G E Swope's
notations of birth and death, in exclusion of, or perhaps substantiating
the family bible he mentioned.

G E Swope states he emmigrated 1720 with wife and five children
[no records of other children unearthed by and none known to GE Swope].
No record of ship or date of entry and this remains the case today.
Yost was buried
originally in family orchard...reinterred 1884 Heller's Church. Inscription
on second stone erected 1884 are in agreement with G E Swope's dates ,
while G E Swope mentions a then existent family bible which may have been
his source. There exists the possibility he relied on the stone for
his dates; His reference to the bible, and what exactly it held, are woefully
incomplete beyond stating that the bible existed along with records of
birth of 5 children. His wife was identified only by Christian name.
| & Anna Katharina [ Surname Unknown]
G E Swope mentions that with Yost on his reinternment was found a lock
of female red hair. He presents as likely belonging to Anna Katharina.

G. E. Swope wrote in ěThe Swope Familyî published in 1898, that "We have the birth records of the five children of Yost Swope, but nothing more regarding them, except his son John.î He also mentions a family bible. He states these five children emmigrated from Germany 1720 with their father, mother & four siblings. He makes no comment as to whether the birth records and family bible align , he in fact mentions the family bible only in passing. He did not transcribe either the birth records or the bible. It is unclear to me if he referred to the bible and birth records and viewed them himself, or relied on information relevant from it from its [then] holder hoping to view them later and before publication. He comments that he was informed of the loss by fire of all five birth records and the family bible in the home of the holder in 1895 and before publication.

Footnote regarding John Ulrich SCHWAB
G. E Swope gives John Ulrich SCHWAB as one of 5 children found
in birth records in hands of descendants in 1898. Unfortunately, the birth
records and family bible burned shortly before publication. G. E. Swope
remarks in ěThe Swope Familyî published in 1898 that John Ulrich SCHWAB
emigrated from Germany 1720 with his father, mother & four siblings.
He further states: ěWe have the birth records of the five children of Yost
Swope, but nothing more regarding them, except his son John.î (John born
May 28 1704...not John Ulrich...This John referenced as having more detail
is the Johannes SCHWAB who married first Anna Dorothea LINE and 2nd Eliz
GROVE)
The Swope Family Book of Remembrance published 1972 and written by
Morse and McLachlin shows a son Hans Ulrich born 1707 in Germany. They
comment he possibly is present in records of Pennsylvania, but it appears
his identity is not firm in the Americas.
Many online pedigrees (unsourced) inform of John Ulrich SWOPE, none
of which provide documentation for the assertion that their John Ulrich
Swope is THIS John Ulrich Swope.. However, I provide the information from
those sites [plentiful on line in google search] again stating [NO ducumentation
has risen to support any of the following as pertaining to the son of
Yost]
These pedigrees state that he assumed name of Joseph (Yost in
German) after his fatherís death and settled in Va,(now near Swope's Depot)
afterwards claiming lands west of the Appalachians, at Swopes Knobs
near Wolf Creek WVA. John Ulrich (Joseph) is the 'Early Pioneer" who hid
in a hollow poplar tree to avoid pursuit by indians. He built a log cabin
and brought his wife and young family over from old Virginia. His son Michael
was the first white-child born in that part of the 'new' Virginia. After
many attacks, one of which resulted in the kidnapping of his young son,
he bitterly hated the indians. He died from complications from a broken
leg (... and poorly mended indian wound... ) as a result of being thrown
from his horse. His Burial site is unknown .
